The northern part of Zabaikalye Region has unique natural resources potential enabling to create a complex of mining and metallurgical plants for high-level processing of local raw materials on the basis of 17 solid mineral deposits.
Udokan Copper Project will create opportunities for sustainable development of resource potential of the northern part of Zabaikalye Region based on an integrated complex of power, transport, social and engineering infrastructure facilities.
Comprehensive approach to territory development is labeled in the effective strategic documents as North Zabaikalye Regional Production Area of Federal Significance (“Strategy of Social and Economic Development of Siberia up to the year 2020”), Chara mining and metallurgical cluster (“Strategies of the Far East and Baikal Region Social Development up to the year 2025”), priority development area Chara Territorial and Industrial Complex (“Strategic Development Trends of Zabaikalye Region”).
Main infrastructure facilities required for the execution of Udokan Copper Project are included in the List of Top Priority Activities for Social and Economic Development of Zabaikalye Region in 2018-2025 approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation in May 2018.
Coming on stream of Phase 1 of Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Plant will create more than 2,000 jobs net of related sectors and provide more than RUR 750 bn of additional revenue to the budgets of all levels for the first 25 years of operation.
